Spears Loses Custody of Kids
October 1st 2007 22:44
Los Angeles County Court ordered Monday that Britney Spears is to give up custody of her two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James. Former husband, Kevin Federline, is to receive full custody of both children “until further notice of the court,” according to a ruling by Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon.
Let the suicide watch begin!
It was not cited what led to Gordon’s decision, but in recent days Spears was seen repeatedly in violation of Gordon’s orders to not drink within 12 hours of being in the presence of the children and for Spears to get counseling and parenting help.
Spears’ was to submit to random drug tests after finding she engaged in "habitual, frequent, and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol." In addition to ordering the twice-weekly drug tests, Gordon ordered Spears to spend eight hours per week working with a "parenting coach," who was to observe her interactions with her children.
He also banned both Spears and Federline from making "derogatory remarks about the other party and the other party's family or significant other" during the case. And he ordered the parents to go through "joint co-parenting counseling”.
Monday's order comes amid a career freefall for Spears, whose new album is slated for a November 13th release from label Jive Records.
Reportedly, Spears did not wait until the Wednesday ‘witching’ hour to surrender the kids. TMZ.com reports that Spears took the kids through the drive-thru at Carl’s Jr. at 12:02 PM PST and then handed them over to K-Fed’s bodyguard about three minutes later.
The ruling states:
“Respondent’s oral motion pursuant to section 214FC is granted and the matter proceeds as a closed hearing. The court and all parties present confer on the record that the court makes its order as fully reflected in the notes of the official court reporter. The court’s prior order including the orders made on September 28, 2007 remain in full force and effect with the following modification: Respondent is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 at 12 PM until further order of the Court. Respondent’s ex- parte application is noticed for October 3, 2007 at 1:30 PM in Department 88.”
